"It is a privilege and dream- come-true for me to grow and deliver intoxicating beauty."
- Paula Rice
Paula Rice is a professional cut flower farmer and florist providing intoxicating beauty to North Idaho for 15 years. She loves growing and playing with flowers and seeks ways to keep her passion alive and strong by finding solutions to the complexities of operating a growing and designing business in zone 4. It has been quite the education. When she’s not working the fields, you can find her walking the fields, eating raspberries, and wondering what she should make for dinner.
With it’s deep ribbed, textural leaves, raspberry foliage is a great greenery for both country designs, elegant designs, and even a single specimen bouquet.
It also happens to be a great cut-and-come-again foliage that produces all season long. In this example you can see that I already harvested the mail lateral stem and instantly two side shoots developed for more foliage later in the season.
Let’s look at how nice raspberry greens up in a vase.
The entire stem can be used if you are methodical about the bouquet you are building. Cutting just above a leaf node, can create many stems, from that single stem, to use in your bouquet.
Notice how nicely the leaves hang over the vase, breaking that hard line.
Now all you need is to add some other beautiful flowers and textured elements.
OK…I may have gone a little hog wild here…but I have a flower farm, right? You will notice that even the under-sides of the raspberry leaves offer a lot of interest to the overall design. Pictured here are annual phlox, lisianthus, sweet pea, dahlias, grass and few snapdragons. Get out and play with flowers.
